What Are the Best Healthy Drinks for Children?

It’s imperative for kids to stay properly hydrated. However, drinking is not only for adequate hydration; this activity is also necessary in maintaining good overall health, especially with the right choice of drinks or beverages.

Currently, there are so many beverage choices available on the market for children. For example, you will find flavored drinks fortified with vitamins and minerals. There are even sodas that are pitched as good for the kids since they have different kinds of nutrients. But just because these drinks claim to be good for the young ones doesn’t mean that your children should be consuming them frequently.

If you really want to know what the best and truly healthy drinks for children are, they are rounded up below:

  1. Milk – This is the drink that everybody is first introduced to in life and it is the main source of nutrients and antibodies for babies. On the market, there are different formulas created to boost proper development of the little ones, but check with the pediatrician first to determine which of the products available is most suitable for your kids. Some types of formula are too heavy with sugar and can make kids fat, so it’s best to get the opinion of your children’s doctor regarding their milk formula.
  2. Water – While this is devoid of nutrients, water is very refreshing (it helps maintain the ideal body temperature) and it can boost health. It works as a fantastic detoxifying agent and it works against bacterial activities in the body. Water is also crucial to promoting regular urination and bowel movement. Best of all, water is cheap (it is even free if you have clean tap water) and readily available.
  3. Fruit juices – Take note that fruit juices are good, not juice drinks — these are nothing but flavorings and sugar. Freshly squeezed orange or lemon juice, and even green juices (a mix of vegetables and fruits) provide not only a sugar kick, but also plenty of vitamins and minerals. If the little ones do not like to eat their veggies, green juices can provide them the veggie fix they need.
  4. Yogurt drinks – These are perfect especially if the children have irregular bowel movements. The good bacteria present in yogurt drinks can keep the little ones’ tummies healthy. What’s also nice about these drinks is that they are quite delicious and they come in a large variety of flavors that kids love. Remember to study the nutritional value of yogurt drinks when buying them at the store – they are not all created the same. Go for those that have high nutritional value and are low in sugar.
